Getting started

  1. 1Install Vyal and open the app.
  2. 2Complete the short onboarding and grant Microphone and Speech Recognition access. These are required for live coaching.
  3. 3Choose your AI engine in Settings. Apple Intelligence runs on-device and is the free default. You can optionally connect your own Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini key.
  4. 4Tap Start listening, place your phone on speaker or nearby, and Vyal will transcribe and coach you in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vyal record my calls?+

No. Vyal transcribes ambient audio live to generate coaching. It does not save raw audio. Only the text transcript and recap are stored, and only on your device and your private iCloud.

Does it work in person and on the phone?+

Yes. Vyal works across a table, at a dealership, in a meeting, or on speakerphone. It listens through the device microphone, so use speaker mode on phone calls.

Which AI does it use?+

By default, Apple Intelligence runs entirely on your device - private and free, no account or key needed. You can optionally bring your own cloud AI key (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or any compatible provider). With a cloud AI, only short text snippets are sent to that provider, never raw audio.

Where is my data stored?+

Call recaps and transcripts are saved on your device and synced through your own private iCloud. We do not run servers and cannot see your conversations.

How do follow-ups and calendar sync work?+

Vyal can detect follow-up commitments from a conversation and, with your permission, add them to your Apple Calendar.

How do I manage my subscription?+

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions on your iPhone.

The transcript is missing words or only catches a word or two. What can I do?+

Place the phone closer to the speakers, use speaker mode, reduce background noise, and try switching the capture profile in Settings (Balanced for nearby audio, Room for far-field). Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions are granted.

How do I delete my data?+

Delete a saved call inside the app to remove it from your device and iCloud. Deleting the app removes local data. You can also disable iCloud sync for Vyal in iOS Settings.

Is Vyal a substitute for legal, financial, or professional advice?+

No. Vyal provides coaching suggestions for informational purposes only. You are responsible for your decisions and for complying with any laws about recording or transcribing conversations where you live.
